Preliminary study on the repelent effect of essential oils from three species of the myrtaceae family on Wasmannia auropunctata (Roger) (Hym. Formicidae)
Main Article Content
Abstract
Even if the control of Wasmannia auropunctata (Roger) with insecticida chemicals has shown positive results, it has been limited because of high costs of the products unabling agriculture producers to by them in the necessary amounts. Seeking other sources of struggle against this formicide a preliminary study was made to prove the repellent effect of pure essential oils extracted from the leaves of three species belonging to thebotanical family of Myrtaceae (Melaleuca leucadendron L. (cayeput), Eucalyptus citriodora Hook y Eucalyptus pellita F. Muell.) against adult insects. Results showed the three essential oils had a high repellent effect on the ant during the 96 hour observation, leading to consider these oils as promisory for the development of products with repellent properties against santanica
