Performance and characterization of Corymbia citriodora Hill & Johnson essential oil, las taironas origin, Pinar del Río, Cuba
Main Article Content
Abstract
It is strategic for Cuba, the development of plantation areas of the species Corymbia citriodora Hill & Johnson, in order to obtain essential oil as raw material. The objective of the study is to evaluate the performance and the physical and chemical characteristics of the essential oil of the foliage of the provenance Las Taironas, municipality of Pinar del Río. To obtain the essential oil, the steam drag method was used with bench-scale equipment. An analysis of descriptive statistics was applied to the results. The average yield was 24.9 g of oil/kg of foliage (2.5 %), by ISO standards the oil obtained was characterized, verifying that the species has a good yield of essential oil, and the physical and chemical parameters were it are among those reported by the literature, which makes it possible to recommend it for these purposes.
