Determination of the existence of latency or dormance in Pinus caribaea Morelet var seeds. Barrett and Golfari caribaea (P. caribaea) and Pinus tropicalis Morelet (P. tropicalis) in different seed sources
Main Article Content
Abstract
With the aim of knowing the existence of some type of latency, which inhibits germination in the seeds of the species Pinus caribaea Morelet var. Caribaea Barrett and Golfari (P. caribaea) and Pinus tropicalis Morelet (P. tropicalis) from two seed sources (Macurije and Malbajita, La Palma), several treatments were carried out according to the types of latency that exist: exogenous, endogenous and mixed, within the listed: scarification, stratification and application of hormones. For this, seeds of the 2016 harvest were sampled. Neither of the two species exhibited exogenous lethargy, but expressed a good response to the endogenous treatment. However, the application of hormones (gibberellins) does not significantly influence the germinative capacity of the treated species.
