Use of the physical properties of the wood in the solution of problems of the forest industry

Abstract
The present work aims to develop drying programs for the four pine species that exist in Cuba: Pinus tropicalis Morelet (female pine), Pinus caribaea Morelet var. caribaea Barret and Golfari (male pine), Pinus cubensis Griseb (Mayarí pine) and Pinus maestrensis Bisse (Sierra pine). Considering the variables normal density (d12 %), tangential contraction (Ct), radial contraction (Cr), Ct/Cr ratio and fiber saturation point (PSF), the “complicated” program is selected, taking into account the particularities of the Cuban conifers, which implies the selection of maximum dry temperatures of 75 ºC for thicknesses of 25 mm, 50 mm and 75 mm and drying gradients of 3.6 for 25 mm and 3.1, for the two remaining thicknesses. The table of contractions that occur in the sawn pieces during their drying is also determined.
