Obtaining and chemical characterization of Corymbia citriodora Hill & Jonhson essential oil that grow in Cuba
Main Article Content
Abstract
In the article, present the results obtained in the chemical extraction and characterization of the essential oil of the leaves of Corymbia citriodora Hill & Jonhson that grows in Cuba are presented. The essential oil content obtained was 22.5 g (2.2 %) of oil/kg of leaves for the species, whereas the physical-chemical parameters: relative density, refractive index, acid index, and index esters determined did not differ of the internationally published ranges for this type of oil. The chemical composition consists mainly of citronelal, citronellol, iso-pulegol and citronellil acetate. From the results obtained it is inferred that there are possibilities for the management of the residual foliage of these species, as a medicinal plant to obtain essential oil as raw material for the Cosmetics and Aroma therapy industry.
