Populational structures of Sideroxylon jubilla (Ekman ex Urb.) T. D. Penn. in the ecological reserve El Gigante

Abstract
Sideroxylon jubilla is an endemic taxon of the east region, categorized as almost threatened (NT), it is an species of interest for the administration of the protected area the ecological reserve El Gigante, for the high level of exploitation of the species in the mountains of the Sierra Maestra in the decades of 1940 at 1960, what justifies the necessity to determine its populational structure for an effective management. It was used the transect as sampling method and registration of data, taking as base the presence of the taxon in the area, they were carried out six transects of 50 m x 10 m, where was registered the abundance of the individuals and the following parameters: height, diameter to 1,30 m, reproduction, evidence of mechanical damages, sanitary state. The identification and localization of Sideroxylon jubilla in the ecological reserve El Gigante, allowed the discovery of 286 individuals, which constitutes a valuable contribution to the study of the species in the country.
