Contribution to the study of the honey production of the species Avicennia germinans (mangle prieto)
Main Article Content
Abstract
The flowering of the species Avicennia germinans, that occurs in the months of April-May in the south coast, and May-June in the north coast, assures in Cuba the summer honey crop and it is the most voluminous honey crop after the production of the fourth trimester, allowing the movement of thousands beehives toward the costs. The importance of this species in the extraordinary perspective that offers the Apiculture in the mangroves is corroborated in the results of the sampling of the secretion of nectar of the flowers of the species. There are significant differences in the volume of secretion of nectar, but not in the sugar concentration, that it maintains an average of 50%, with a sugar index of 1 mg of sugar produced for flower during the period of secretion of nectar, resulting attractive and profitable for the pollinator insects.
