Populational structures of Juniperus saxicola Britton & P. Wilson in a fragment of the cloudy forest of the National Park Turquino
Main Article Content
Abstract
The investigation was carried out in the Zonal Unit of Conservation Aguada de Joaquín, belonging to the National Park Turquino, municipality of Bartolomé Masó, Granma province in the year 2015, with the objective of evaluating the population structure of Juniperus saxicola. It was developed a prospecting of the species in the area using the transept method. The vertical and horizontal structure was analyzed starting from the established classes for the species. The results showed the identification of 42 individuals distributed in three isolated groups. A grouping in form of invested J for the vertical structure is revealed, the biggest quantity of individuals is grouped in the low classes while the biggest classes diminish, characteristic of threatened forest species. In the case of the horizontal structure the species present a grouping of individuals in the intermediate diameter classes. The work presents a great ecological and environmental importance mainly because the taxón is categorized in the critical danger category.
