Carbon contain in some Cuban forest soils: brown soil type carbonates
Main Article Content
Abstract
Forest ecosystems contain more carbon per united area than any other land utilization type and their soils contain for about 40 percent of the total. Through the carbon sequestered the levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide can be reduced as long as the soil organic matter increased. The objective of the present article is to show the carbon contain in Carbonates Brown Soil Type (Inceptisoles) covered by different type of forests plantation and other land use in different Cuban regions. This paper show that the major carbon retention take place when the soil is used in Tectona grandis (teak) plantation with level of 80,38 t/ha, however in pasture land degradated, which can be converted in forest area, such level may reach between 21 y 25,26 t/ha.
