Distribution and abundance Odocoileus virginianus (white-tailed deer) in Forest Enterprise Integrated Mines, Pinar del Río, Cuba
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research took place at the locality El Tibisí, at Minas de Matahambre municipality within the area of the Forestry Enterprise Minas (EFI), and in 4 vegetal formations: Pinus caribaea platation, var. caribaea, pinus forest, semidecidous forest, Pinus topicalis forests. For the estimate of density, the excrete count method was used in circular parcels of about 15 m radio, which were distributed in a systematic way through the vegetation and a distance between parcels of 50 meters. When comparing deer´s density among vegetal formation by Mann-Whitney test, a meaningful difference was found between semidecidous forest with respect to the other kinds of forests. The WhiteTailed Deer´s highest values of estimate average density were of 13,65 ± 1.04 deers/100 ha, for semidecidous forest, 3,50 ± 0,97 deers/100 ha in Pinus caribaea platation, 2,65 ± 0,47 deers/100 ha in pinus forest and the lowest estimate average density was 1,13 ± 0,31 deers /100 ha in pinus forest (Pinus tropicalis).
