El manejo silvícola con criterios sostenibles en la rehabilitación de la capacidad productiva de ecosistemas degradados en alturas de pizarras
Main Article Content
Abstract
Humanity faces big problems because of soil degradations. There are millions of hectars of degraded forest lands around the world. Plantation silviculture has arise the concern that in many of the places where trees are planted, productivity will not be maintained. Successive rotations of tree species and the inadequate handling of them have been mentioned as a hypothesis of unsustainable exploitation of intensive plantations. This work is the result of 33 years of evaluation of two experiments of Pinus caribaea var. caribaea, stablished in 1970 and 1984 in «Alturas de Pizarras» in Pinar del Río Province. The main objective was to determine the influence of silvicultural treatments in Pinus caribaea var. caribaea plantations. Five treatments were considered: 1111, 1333, 1666, 2222 and 3333 trees/ha and a specie natural area. The best results were obtained with 1333 arb/ha, with management based on sustainable criteria. These results shows rehabilitation of edafoclimatics conditions and ecosystems productive capacity, con un manejo silvícola con criterios sostenibles, dando muestra de la rehabilitación de las condiciones edáficas y de being reflected these results in the increase of the timber volume.
