Abstract
Para minimizar el deterioro de la biodiversidad forestal, el estado ecuatoriano ha puesto en marcha el programa PROFORESTAL, que plantea: “Implementar y ejecutar el Plan Nacional de Forestación y Reforestación con fines de protección, conservación, sistemas agroforestales y plantaciones comerciales e industriales”. Como línea estratégica el programa señala; utilizar material genético de origen certificado, que garantice la calidad de los productos maderables y no maderables. Las especies seleccionadas, Ochroma pyramidale (Cav. ex Lam.) Urban, Cordia alliodora (Ruiz & Pav.) Oken, son nativas, se desarrollan de forma silvestre, son de fácil adaptación en clima tropical, tienen un alto uso y valor comercial, son de crecimiento rápido y docilidad en los manejo silviculturales. Hasta el momento no existe un patrón orientador que garantice el éxito en plantaciones puras ni material de propagación con grado de calidad genética comprobado.
