Estudio de la regeneración natural de Hibiscus elatus sw. En la unidad silvícola Melena del Sur

Abstract
The paper presents an assessment of Hibiscus elatus Sw. natural regeneration behaviour at the Forestry Unity Melena del Sur, done five years after a total area logging; the evaluations included the actual species composition, the mean height per species and each one’s percentage into the whole composition. The trees per hectare mean value was of 20 000, including 17 800 of Hibiscus elatus Sw. with 8.0 height meters mean value; 2 000 individuals of C. antillanum (Vahl.) DC with 6.0 height meters mean value and 200. Terminalia catappa L. trees with 10.5 height meters mean value. It was concluded that fructification and fruits maturation, as wellas the disposable amount of seeds on the soil at the wood harvesting moment- are very important for wood’s regeneration. The natural wood nearness helped the C. antillanum (Vahl.) DC and T. catappa L. presence along the natural regene- ration process. The obtained results also sustain that H. elatus Sw. seeds are able to germinate under shadow conditions in Cuba.
