Technological changes in the production of agricultural packaging at the Minas de Matahambre Agroforestry Company
Main Article Content
Abstract
Technological modernization in the production of agricultural packaging is key to improving efficiency and profitability in the forestry industry. This study aimed to recommend a simpler and more economical technology for small-scale timber sawing at the Minas de Matahambre Agroforestry Company. Two production lines were compared: the current one, based on double-band saws and a multiple edger-resaw, and a proposed one using facing circular saws. Using standardized methodologies (Vignote & Martínez, 2006; García, 1984), the productivity, unit costs, and efficiency of both technologies were calculated. The results showed that the proposed technology reduced direct unit costs by 5% (CUP) and 39% (CUC), with an estimated annual production of 5,500 m³. It was concluded that circular saw technology is more cost-effective for agricultural packaging, although it was recommended to maintain the existing line for higher-value products and optimize the process by pre-sorting logs (8-16 cm in diameter).
